MAN Engines Delivers Standard Hybrid Propulsion for Benetti B.Neos
The 40-metre yacht integrates diesel-electric propulsion to enable low-emission, near-silent operation during cruising and hotel loads.

MAN Engines has supplied the complete hybrid propulsion system for the Benetti B.Neos, marking the first time a hybrid drive is offered as standard equipment in Benetti’s 40-metre yacht segment.
The primary technical development is the integration of the MAN Smart HYBRID Experience as a fully standardised propulsion concept. The system combines conventional diesel engines with integrated electric motors and battery-electric operation, enabling multiple operating modes within a single, coordinated powertrain architecture.
The hybrid configuration consists of two MAN V8-900 diesel engines, each rated at 662 kW (900 hp), paired with two 200 kW electric motors. The propulsion system complies with IMO Tier III emissions requirements through the use of MAN’s SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) exhaust aftertreatment system. This ensures significantly reduced emissions compared with conventional yacht propulsion systems.
A key capability of the system is battery-electric operation, allowing the yacht to manoeuvre, cruise at low speeds, or remain at anchor with near-zero local emissions and minimal noise. Depending on installed battery capacity, the yacht can operate in hotel mode for extended periods without running diesel engines, supporting operation in ports, bays, and regulated emission-sensitive areas.

In addition to pure electric operation, the hybrid system offers multiple intelligent operating modes, including an efficient cross-over mode. In this mode, diesel engines, generators, and electric motors are dynamically coordinated to optimise fuel efficiency, range, and onboard comfort across different operating profiles.
The propulsion system was developed through close cooperation between Benetti and MAN Engines, focusing on seamless mechanical and software integration within the yacht’s overall system architecture. This includes harmonised control interfaces and energy management functions designed for straightforward operation by the vessel’s crew.
For operators and owners, the hybrid configuration delivers practical engineering benefits: reduced fuel consumption, lower noise and vibration levels, simplified onboard energy management, and operational flexibility across a wide range of sailing and anchoring conditions. The system is designed for long-term reliability, supported by extensive validation and testing during development.
With the B.Neos, Benetti introduces a production yacht platform built around a fully integrated hybrid propulsion system from a single supplier. The project represents a step toward wider adoption of standardised diesel-electric propulsion architectures in the luxury yacht sector, combining compliance with tightening emissions regulations and enhanced onboard comfort without compromising performance or range.
