Kongsberg Maritime Secures Contract for Advanced Offshore LARS

LARS for Subsea Construction, ROV Handling and Deep-Water Operations
Offshore construction projects increasingly require robust launch and recovery systems capable of supporting ROV missions, deep-water work and demanding sea-state conditions. Kongsberg Maritime has signed a major contract with Sea1 Offshore to supply advanced Launch and Recovery Systems (LARS) for four new offshore construction vessels, reinforcing its position as a leading provider of offshore handling technologies.

Each vessel will receive two LARS units designed for subsea construction support and ROV operations. The scope includes telescopic A-frames, fully electric umbilical winches, energy-efficient hydraulic power units and dedicated control systems. Each system provides a 15-tonne safe working load and 4,500 metres of winch cable capacity, enabling reliable performance during deep-water tasks.

Enhancing Vessel Capability Through Proven Handling Technology
The agreement highlights Kongsberg Maritime’s long-standing role in delivering reliable offshore handling solutions. Sales Manager Ingar Hovden noted that the contract reflects the company’s renewed commitment to world-class systems that support safe and sustainable operations. Sea1 Offshore CCO Andreas Kjøl added that the state-of-the-art WROV LARS units will deliver market-leading operability in harsh environments, fully integrated with the vessels’ electric power and energy-storage systems.

Operational, Environmental and Integration Benefits
Kongsberg Maritime’s LARS technology is engineered to maintain controlled launch and recovery even in challenging sea states, reducing operational risk and improving mission reliability. The systems’ compact and modular configuration supports straightforward installation across vessel types while ensuring durability and minimized downtime.

Environmental performance is also a key design driver. Frequency-controlled hydraulic power units reduce energy consumption and emissions, supporting sustainability targets without compromising capability. Advanced control technology ensures precise and responsive handling of ROVs and subsea equipment, enabling safe and efficient execution of complex missions.
