Naval Platform Engineering and Autonomous Systems Integration

Naval platform engineering and unmanned system architectures are undergoing technical alignment to address electronic warfare contested operational zones and cross-domain fleet modernization. Defence engineering contractor STM Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş. has aligned with international procurement authorities, including the Portuguese Navy, the Pakistan Navy, and NATO, to deliver integrated maritime assets and autonomous aerial and subsea platforms.

Industrial Collaboration and Fleet Integration
International defence operations require interoperability across disparate maritime architectures, sovereign shipyard infrastructures, and multinational command chains. Direct acquisition models frequently encounter integration bottlenecks with legacy vessel power distribution, combat management architectures, and local manufacturing capabilities.

To resolve these technical boundaries, STM delivers naval platforms through bilateral industrial partnerships and technology transfer frameworks. For the Portuguese Navy, STM is constructing the Auxiliary Oiler Replenisher and Logistics Ship (AOR+), introducing NATO-compliant underway replenishment systems. Similar engineering frameworks were executed with the Pakistan Navy for the 2018 commissioning of the Pakistan Navy Fleet Tanker (PNFT), validating large-scale naval design transfer and local construction integration.

Technical Architecture of Platforms and Unmanned Systems
The operational scope encompasses surface combatants, subsurface hulls, and distributed autonomous systems:

Surface and Subsurface Platforms: Engineering solutions include the İ-Class Frigate, the ADA-Class Corvette developed under the MİLGEM program, the STM MPAC Fast Attack Craft, and the STM500 shallow-water diesel-electric submarine designed for littoral operations with reduced acoustic signatures.

Autonomous Maritime Systems: Subsurface and surface robotics incorporate the STM NETA Unmanned Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (UUV) for mine countermeasures and bathymetric reconnaissance, alongside the STM YAKTU swarm-capable Kamikaze Unmanned Surface Vehicle (KUSV).

Aerial Navigation in Denied Environments: Tactical loitering munitions and surveillance assets—including KARGU rotary-wing platforms, TURUL vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) systems, BOYGA payload-release drones, and KUZGUN long-range loitering munitions—integrate the KERKES sensor suite. This module uses onboard computer vision and terrain-matching algorithms to sustain inertial positioning in GNSS-denied environments without active radio frequency emissions.

Digital Infrastructure: Digital backbone modernisation is executed via INTCORE command-and-control software and the NATO INTEL-FS2 transformation project, standardising tactical intelligence processing.

Operational Deployment and Validation
System integration protocols will be presented to technical procurement delegations across six regional industrial exhibitions: AFRIDEX 2026 (Lagos, Nigeria, October 26–29), EURONAVAL 2026 (Paris, France, November 3–6), DronTech Asia 2026 (Bangkok, Thailand, November 11–13), NATO EDGE 2026 (İzmir, Türkiye, November 17–19), EXPONAVAL 2026 (Santiago, Chile, December 1–3), and Vietnam Defence Expo 2026 (Hanoi, Vietnam, December 10–13).

Operational validation is evidenced by export deployments across more than 15 countries, with international contracts accounting for over 65 percent of company revenue. Implementing modular combat systems and sovereign software architectures standardises maintenance cycles, maintains acoustic and electronic signature compliance, and ensures integration with existing command protocols.
