Mobile Rescue Stations Expand Bundeswehr Medical Support

The order, booked in July 2026 under a framework contract awarded in December 2024, has a gross value of more than €500 million. It increases the total number of rescue stations ordered to 165 systems, with an overall gross value exceeding €600 million. Production of the additional systems is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.

Rheinmetall Project Solutions GmbH is responsible for the contract, while Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme GmbH manufactures the new modular container-based rescue stations. The cooperation combines project management and system delivery with specialised manufacturing capabilities.

Modular Medical Infrastructure
The rescue stations form part of the Bundeswehr’s Modular Medical Facilities system. They provide initial emergency medical treatment and are designed for rapid deployment by four personnel.

Each station consists of two containers that can operate together or independently. Both containers include a generator and air-conditioning system, allowing independent operation for several days. If one generator fails, the remaining generator can maintain operation of the complete system.

The medical configuration includes a fully equipped emergency treatment station and four additional treatment stations. Medical equipment is mounted on Airliner rails, allowing the internal configuration to be adapted to operational requirements.

Transport and Deployment
The systems can be transported using different carrier vehicles operated by the Bundeswehr and can be deployed on terrain with longitudinal or transverse inclinations. Rheinmetall developed a dedicated lifting system because commercially available equipment did not meet the specified requirements.

Both protected and unprotected variants are being procured. The new configuration replaces a more complex tent-based arrangement with a modular 3:1 container manufactured by Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme GmbH. This enables transport and setup in terrain where conventional temporary medical structures can be more difficult to deploy.

The framework contract also includes options for additional protected and unprotected systems and provides training for relevant Bundeswehr personnel. The mobile architecture is intended to support medical operations where rapid relocation and integration with existing military transport infrastructure are required.
