TKMS, the Israel Ministry of Defense and Elbit Systems have inaugurated a new production facility in Israel dedicated to manufacturing underwater structural components for submarines.
The site will produce Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP) components, marking the first time submarine structural elements of this type will be manufactured domestically in Israel. The initiative forms part of TKMS’s industrial cooperation and offset procurement commitments in the country.
Under the agreement, Elbit Systems has established a dedicated production line to manufacture advanced underwater GRP components using TKMS’s technological expertise. The move deepens long-standing collaboration between the companies and expands Israel’s sovereign manufacturing capabilities in the naval defense sector.
Paul Glaser, CFO of TKMS, described the facility as a milestone in the partnership between TKMS and Israel’s defense industry, emphasizing its role in strengthening technological cooperation and maritime security.
Yoram Shmuely, General Manager of Elbit Systems’ Aerospace Division, highlighted the expansion of local manufacturing capacity and its importance as a foundation for future global underwater programs.
The project is aligned with Israel’s strategy to broaden its defense manufacturing base and strengthen regional industrial development. Located in a national priority area in northern Israel, the facility is expected to create dozens of high-quality jobs in its initial phase while reinforcing the country’s position as a strategic naval technology hub.
Officials from the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Economy underscored that the plant integrates advanced global naval engineering technologies into Israel’s industrial ecosystem, supporting both security objectives and long-term economic growth.
The new facility represents a significant step in expanding Israel’s industrial offset capabilities while deepening international defense cooperation in advanced submarine technologies.
