At the DIMDEX Exhibition in Doha, the Qatar Emiri Air Force has signed a contract with Thales for the delivery of GM200 MM/A (Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission All-in-one) and GM400α (Ground Master Alpha) air surveillance radars, reinforcing Qatar’s airspace protection and situational awareness.

The agreement covers not only the supply of medium- and long-range radars, but also a national supervision and maintenance system, alongside a comprehensive training programme for operators and technicians. Thales will provide local support through an experienced in-country team, responsible for daily maintenance and operational training until 2036.

Designed to address evolving airspace threats — including small drones, low-altitude and highly manoeuvrable targets — the GM200 MM/A offers advanced multi-mission performance with detection ranges of up to 350 km, while the GM400α delivers high-end situational awareness in dense and complex environments.

Both radars are built on Thales’ Secure Digital Integration Platform (SDIP), enabling the creation of a high-quality, real-time air picture and seamless integration with existing national and non-US sensors. Secure networking capabilities ensure rapid data dissemination and enhanced interoperability across Qatar’s air defence architecture.

With more than 200 Ground Master radars sold worldwide, the GM family is widely recognised for its reliability, deployability and performance. The new contract further strengthens Thales’ long-standing relationship with Qatar, spanning over four decades, and aligns with the country’s Qatar National Vision 2030 through sustained local support and advanced digital defence technologies.

“We are proud to contribute to Qatar’s airspace sovereignty with our integrated air surveillance system based on advanced medium- and long-range tactical radars,” said Raphael Desi, Vice-President Integrated Airspace-Protection Systems at Thales. “The GM200 MM/A and GM400α will support the Qatar Emiri Air Force in protecting its airspace against drones and other emerging threats, and this contract reflects the strength of our enduring partnership with Qatar.”
