Moeve supplies SAF for Condor flights from Tenerife
Moeve delivers sustainable aviation fuel for Condor routes from Tenerife to Germany, enabling lifecycle CO₂ reductions on international flights ahead of mandatory ReFuelEU Aviation requirements.

Moeve has supplied Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to support Condor flights departing from Tenerife South Airport, demonstrating voluntary adoption of lower-emission aviation fuels at a location not yet subject to ReFuelEU Aviation obligations.
The supply agreement covered more than 515 metric tons of SAF, which was used on Condor routes linking Tenerife with major German cities including Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf. Based on lifecycle assessment comparisons with conventional jet fuel, the SAF deployment is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1,700 tons.
SAF deployment beyond regulatory requirements
Tenerife South Airport is currently outside the scope of mandatory SAF blending requirements under ReFuelEU Aviation. The decision to deploy SAF on these routes therefore reflects a proactive approach to aviation decarbonisation rather than regulatory compliance. According to airport operator Aena, more than 450,000 passengers annually travel with Condor to and from Tenerife South Airport, giving the initiative measurable scale.
The SAF supplied was produced from used cooking oils and agricultural waste, aligning with second-generation biofuel pathways designed to avoid competition with food crops while delivering lower lifecycle emissions.
Production and supply infrastructure
The fuel was produced at Moeve’s La Rábida Energy Park in Huelva, where the company is constructing a new second-generation biofuels facility. The plant is designed for a flexible annual production capacity of up to 500,000 tons of SAF and renewable diesel. Construction is currently more than 50% complete, with production scheduled to begin at the end of 2026.
Once operational, the site is expected to become the largest second-generation biofuels complex in southern Europe. The project is among the largest industrial developments currently underway in Spain and forms a central part of Moeve’s long-term fuel supply strategy.
Airline demand and passenger participation
Condor has been expanding its use of SAF through voluntary customer participation mechanisms. Since 2024, passengers have been able to round up ticket prices or make direct contributions to fund the procurement of SAF and certified climate protection projects. These contributions are allocated specifically to sourcing SAF volumes beyond regulatory mandates.
This approach allows airlines to increase SAF uptake ahead of binding targets, while testing demand-side mechanisms to support higher-cost sustainable fuels in the near term.
Strategic context
Expanding production and supply of second-generation biofuels, including SAF, is a core element of Moeve’s Positive Motion strategy, which aims to position the company as a leading contributor to Europe’s energy transition by 2030. For the aviation sector, initiatives such as this highlight the role of voluntary fuel switching and supply-chain readiness in bridging the gap between current operations and future regulatory requirements for lower-emission air transport.
