Technology supply agreement and programme context
Rheinmetall has signed a technology supply agreement with SATIM Monitoring Satelitarny to support Germany’s satellite-based reconnaissance activities. The contract formalises SATIM’s role as a technology supplier for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities delivered to the Bundeswehr.
The agreement underpins Rheinmetall’s participation in SPOCK-1, Germany’s satellite reconnaissance programme, which is based on synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technology and is intended to expand the Bundeswehr’s access to space-based intelligence.
AI-supported SAR data exploitation
Under the contract, SATIM will provide AI-driven capabilities designed to process and analyse large volumes of SAR imagery. These tools convert complex radar data into actionable information, enabling faster interpretation and operational use compared with manual analysis.
SATIM will supply its technology from within the European Union, while Rheinmetall will act as system integrator and operate the reconnaissance solution independently in Germany.
Role within Germany’s satellite reconnaissance architecture
SPOCK-1 is part of Germany’s broader effort to increase reliance on satellite-based ISR, particularly using SAR sensors that can generate imagery regardless of weather conditions or daylight. By integrating automated analysis capabilities, the programme aims to improve situational awareness and responsiveness across defence and security operations.
The cooperation combines Rheinmetall’s experience in defence system integration and delivery with SATIM’s specialised expertise in AI-supported radar data analysis.
Operational relevance and long-term collaboration
The technology supply agreement establishes a foundation for longer-term cooperation between the two companies. From an operational perspective, the collaboration is intended to enhance decision support by improving the speed, consistency, and scalability of ISR data exploitation in complex security environments.
By linking satellite-based sensing with automated analysis, the partnership addresses growing demand for timely intelligence derived from increasingly large and complex data sets.
