The cooperative effort focuses on developing the second interceptor variant for the Integrated Fires Protection Capability Increment 2 program. The resulting missile system provides air defense for fixed sites and forward operating infrastructure against low-altitude aerodynamic threats.

Industrial Challenge and Strategic Cooperation
Modern defense networks face operational strain caused by the proliferation of low-cost cruise missiles and uncrewed aircraft. Neutralizing these saturating threats requires high-volume interceptor production. However, solid rocket motor supply chains have faced bottlenecking due to limited manufacturing capacity across the sector.

The joint initiative addresses this industrial limitation by uniting Boeing expertise in airframe integration with newly expanded solid rocket motor manufacturing developed by Anduril Industries. The collaboration establishes an architecture optimized for high manufacturing rates and system compatibility.

System Architecture and Division of Roles
The technical solution consists of a modular midrange surface-to-air interceptor. System responsibilities leverage the core technical capabilities of each partner:
  • Boeing provides the radio-frequency or optical seeker subsystem, guidance components, and the compact aerodynamic airframe.
  • Anduril Industries manufactures the solid rocket motor propulsion unit, applying internal motor architectures developed for high-rate scalability.
Propulsion hardware is sourced from a dedicated 450-acre facility featuring parallelized mixing and casing operations. The production site integrates a bladeless high-speed mixer designed to process solid propellant mixes without internal mechanical agitation, enabling simultaneous handling of variable motor configurations on a single line.

Deployment, Testing, and Phased Integration
The interceptor operates within an engagement radius bridging short-range point defense mechanisms and long-range ballistic defense systems. Ground-based launcher interfaces are configured for base defense operations across dispersed operational zones.

Initial exploratory engineering began in 2024. Under the current competitive phase, the industrial team progresses through detailed hardware design, subsystem qualification, system-level software integration, and range demonstrations. The program phase culminates in a capability demonstration evaluated against military operational benchmarks.

Expected Operational Impact

By decoupling solid propulsion manufacturing from conventional industrial limitations, the collaborative platform establishes a resilient manufacturing workflow. The parallelized propellant production line lowers unit cycle times, allowing magazine depth to scale in response to high-attrition aerial threats.
