The Nyan OWE is a domestically developed uncrewed aircraft with a wingspan of 2.9 metres that provides a precision strike capability. Although the system has already been deployed in land operations, the recent trials marked its first evaluation from a naval platform, extending its potential operational role across multiple domains.
The maritime demonstrations took place during Exercise Neptune Reach off the south coast of England. Operating from the Royal Navy's experimentation vessel XV Patrick Blackett, the trials formed part of Project Vantage, a programme established to accelerate the testing and evaluation of maritime attack drone technologies through cooperation between the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force.

The Royal Navy Capability Team and the Air and Space Warfare Centre are analysing the trial results to assess future operational deployment. Further demonstrations aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth are being considered as part of the ongoing development programme.

The demonstrations contribute to Project Vantage, which focuses on integrating One-Way Effector technologies into the UK's Hybrid Navy concept.
