Heavy-Duty Military Logistics Vehicle Integration

Daimler Truck AG and its business unit Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks are cooperating to adapt heavy-duty truck platforms for military logistics and support roles, based on modular vehicle architectures suitable for defense and governmental applications.

Context of the Cooperation
Daimler Truck AG develops and industrializes heavy-duty commercial vehicle platforms, while Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks is responsible for configuring these platforms for defense, civil protection, and disaster relief missions. Military logistics operations impose requirements that differ from civilian transport, including sustained off-road operation, high axle loads, and compatibility with military bodies and equipment.

The cooperation allows commercial-scale vehicle development to be combined with defense-specific engineering. Platform standardization supports industrial production efficiency, while mission adaptation addresses operational requirements such as durability, interoperability, and maintainability.

Technical Solution and Responsibilities
The cooperation is based on the Arocs and Zetros vehicle families, which use modular chassis and driveline concepts. Daimler Truck AG supplies the core vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, axles, and electronic architectures derived from series production.

Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks manages mission adaptation, including all-wheel-drive layouts, reinforced frames, military-compatible electrical systems, and standardized interfaces for bodies and auxiliary equipment. These interfaces support integration of logistics modules, recovery systems, and tanker units from multiple suppliers.

Deployment and Industry Presentation
The adapted vehicles are presented to defense and governmental users at the World Defense Show 2026, scheduled to take place 8–12 February 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at the Riyadh Exhibition and Convention Center.

The exhibition provides a platform to demonstrate vehicle integration concepts, mission configurations, and lifecycle support models to international military procurement and engineering audiences.

Applications and Use Cases
Target use cases include material transport, fuel and water logistics, engineering support, and disaster response. Standardized components and interfaces enable faster integration with existing military logistics systems and simplify maintenance planning.

Expected Impact
The cooperation supports scalable fleet deployment, predictable maintenance, and technical interoperability. By combining commercial vehicle platforms with defense-specific integration, the approach reduces lifecycle complexity while supporting operational reliability in demanding environments and logistics networks.
