Israel Ministry of Defense Awards Elbit Systems $130M CH-53K Integration Contract

The Israel Ministry of Defense has signed an approximately $130 million agreement with Elbit Systems to integrate advanced Israeli technologies on the Israeli Air Force’s new CH-53K “Pereh” heavy-lift helicopters.

The contract, led by the Defense Procurement Directorate (DPD) within the Ministry of Defense, covers the integration of Israeli-developed command and control systems, avionics, electronic warfare suites, and an advanced directed infrared countermeasures (DIRCM) anti-missile system. These capabilities will be installed on 12 CH-53K helicopters that are set to replace the Israel Defense Forces’ aging “Yas’ur” fleet.

The helicopters were acquired under a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) agreement between Israel and the United States and are being manufactured by Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky division at its main production facility in Connecticut. Once assembly is completed, the aircraft will move to a dedicated installation line where they will be adapted from the standard U.S. configuration to meet the operational requirements of the Israeli Air Force.

According to the Ministry of Defense, integrating Israeli systems will significantly enhance cockpit ergonomics, support operations in complex and contested environments, and improve capabilities such as obstacle detection and safe landing zone identification.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the agreement represents a major milestone in strengthening the Israel Defense Forces and preserving the Israeli Air Force’s operational edge. He emphasized that incorporating domestically developed technologies into the world’s most advanced heavy-lift helicopter supports Israel’s policy of promoting “blue-and-white” defense production, supply continuity, and long-term operational independence.

Maj. Gen. (Res.) Amir Baram, Director General of the Ministry of Defense, noted that the CH-53K program is a central element of Israel’s multi-year force buildup, alongside new fighter aircraft, helicopters, tankers, and armaments. He added that the integration effort highlights the technological strength of Israel’s defense industry and its ability to contribute advanced systems to leading global platforms.

Elbit Systems President and CEO Bezhalel (Butzi) Machlis said the company is proud to participate in the flagship helicopter modernization program, supplying advanced systems tailored to Israeli Air Force requirements. He added that these technologies are designed to enhance mission effectiveness while maximizing flight safety for aircrews.
