Safran And Skyted Partner To Deliver Silent Inflight Voice Communications

Safran Passenger Innovations (SPI) and Skyted are cooperating to integrate silent and confidential voice communication technology into RAVE In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC) systems for commercial aviation, targeting discreet onboard calls that maintain cabin quietness and support productivity and secure digital services.

Transforming Inflight Communication
The integrated solution captures a passenger’s voice at its source and restricts its spread within the aircraft cabin, enabling voice calls that remain private and do not disturb nearby passengers. In contrast to standard inflight voice services that can contribute to cabin noise, the partnership’s offering focuses on minimizing audio leakage and maximizing confidentiality, addressing a gap in current IFEC capabilities and passenger expectations for privacy in a connected environment.

SPI will deliver this functionality through its RAVE Open Platform, a modular architecture that allows third-party technologies to be embedded directly within the RAVE IFEC system. This open approach enables airlines to adopt advanced digital services without extensive customization or disruptive integration processes. As broadband connectivity becomes more widely available on commercial flights, the added feature of silent voice communication differentiates the RAVE IFEC offering from other systems by combining entertainment, connectivity, and productivity features in a single ecosystem.

Benefits for Passengers and Airlines
The expected outcomes of the integration include a quieter cabin environment, increased ability for business travelers to make confidential calls without disrupting others, and an overall enhancement of the inflight digital experience. By preserving cabin calm and supporting private interactions, the solution aligns with evolving passenger expectations for personalization and security in inflight services. Unlike conventional in-flight voice features, the silent call capability is designed to scale — potentially enabling many passengers to make simultaneous calls without compromising each other’s experience.

Competitive Context
In the current IFEC market, differentiation increasingly depends on the breadth and quality of digital services offered to airlines and their customers. Traditional IFEC systems emphasize content streaming, internet access, and entertainment features. The addition of silent confidential communication positions RAVE IFEC as a more comprehensive platform that addresses not only entertainment and connectivity but also real-time, private communication — a feature not typically associated with standard IFE systems. Through this partnership, Safran and Skyted aim to set a new standard for integrating communications capabilities into inflight digital ecosystems, supporting the trend toward “office-in-the-sky” experiences.

Looking Ahead
This exclusive agreement reflects a broader industry shift toward more connected and personalized inflight experiences. By combining SPI’s industrial expertise and global IFEC footprint with Skyted’s deeptech innovation, the partnership seeks to redefine passenger expectations for inflight voice communication without compromising cabin comfort or crew operations.
