Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, Hermeus develops hypersonic aircraft and propulsion systems for defence and future high-speed aviation. Its development roadmap progresses from the Quarterhorse demonstrator to the Darkhorse uncrewed aircraft and ultimately Halcyon, a planned passenger aircraft. Central to its approach is the Chimera turbine-based combined-cycle engine, integrating a turbine engine with ramjet technology for operation from take-off to hypersonic speeds. Hermeus combines rapid aircraft development, autonomous systems, propulsion engineering and advanced manufacturing, primarily supporting US defence programmes while developing technology for future commercial hypersonic travel.
Expendable vehicle launches from reusable Quarterhorse aircraft, enabling payload testing and Flight Test as a Service with integrated high-speed infrastructure.
